Yet another update

Quick note. The new site is coming along – I’ve updated the documentation to use Jekyll 3.3.1 and I’ve gotten it hooked into the new site design. I’ve pared back virtually everything I can think of and the priority is to the site out as fast as possible, then iterate to improve it. Things like searching the user doc won’t be in the first release, I’m afraid – and a few other things are going to be nixed. But it’ll be worth it!

Hi there! My website based on formtools adm area is not working since yesterday (i guess, cause at least tuesday 27 i could be accessing normally). Maybe is about this updating? Do you guys have a prevision when it will be working properly? I have some embed forms in another website that is very important to be online and working well, and since yesterday only a blank area is showing instead of the form.
Kind regards, thanks for this amazing tool and happy new year!

Hi Raquel, no I’m afraid it’ll be unrelated to anything I’m doing on my end. If you didn’t change anything with your Form Tools configuration or site, I’d suggest contacting your hosting provider to see if they’ve changed anything on your environment.

Good luck and a Happy New Year too! :)

  3. Hi Ben, it’s me again!
I’ve contacted 1&1 (my provider) and they told me the hosting is working well, maybe there’s something wrong about Formtools app itself. Any chance you have a tip about what’s going on? FYI, before the back office gone for good, I’ve been searching an answer about a bug when sending the form info, with this error message:

Notice: Undefined index: date_month_short_PM in /homepages/3/d639459114/htdocs/clickandbuilds/FormTools/neohub_frms/global/code/general.php on line 669

Notice: Undefined index: date_month_short_PM in /homepages/3/d639459114/htdocs/clickandbuilds/FormTools/neohub_frms/global/code/general.php on line 669

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /homepages/3/d639459114/htdocs/clickandbuilds/FormTools/neohub_frms/global/code/general.php:669) in /homepages/3/d639459114/htdocs/clickandbuilds/FormTools/neohub_frms/modules/form_builder/global/code/generator.php on line 446

I don’t know if it helps, but I’m very worried about it. The support center of 1&1 suggested me to uninstall and then install again the Formtools app, but if I lose all the forms I’ve already built, I die :D

Looking forward to hear from you,
    Kind regards
    Raquel

    Hey Raquel,

Curious…! The errors you’re seeing are notices and warning – sort of a lower level sort of error. They’re good to know about, but generally they don’t cause any problems. Looking at the particular error, it looks like maybe you’re using a Form Builder form + it’s generating a minor index notice.

But Form Tools should suppress these minor errors for production environments, that’s what’s so odd…

Could you try adding this line to your [form tool root]global/config.php file?:
    $g_default_error_reporting = 1;

Let me know if that makes any difference.

    Ben

  5. Hi Ben,
yes, I’m using a Form Builder form, since I’m not a programmer (unfortunately, I wish I was a very smart girl in tech :)).
Well, the guys of 1&1 recommended me to install again the Form Tolls app, but I don’t now if its possible to mix the pastes (the old and the new) in order to maintain the forms I’ve already built. In fact there are only two forms, but one of them is veeery important to me to save, If I could have at least this one, the other one I could derive from this with a little bit of patience.

Is there any chance to you help me in this issue?
P.S: I added the line you suggested me at config.php file but nothing happened.

    All the best
    Raquel

    Hi Ben,

I wonder if you have been working on a new version of the application to include parent-child table linking with foreign keys.

I have made a work-around to meet my need for a parent-child key relationship, but I am afraid not everyone can do it. Formtools is, by far, the best I have tried. I have created a very, very complex app with it. Sadly, though, the project had to be cancelled so I don’t have a site to list here using your app.

It is worrisome to note you don’t have a community of programmers working with you on this project. This makes people hesitate to use your app. When I presented it to my colleagues, they immediately look for a strong community that ensures regular updates.

  7. admin says:

Hi Renante, agreed! Getting the code up onto github where others can contribute is a big priority. My other open source projects have benefitted enormously from the community – Form Tools is just one of the oldest and needing some work first… but we’re getting there!

Regarding your requirements, you mean foreign-key relationships for your forms themselves? Yeah, this was something I discussed a fair bit with my old business partner several years back, but in all honesty there’s nothing on the horizon for that just yet. Once the new site has been released I’m going to be focusing on a patch release for all components of the script to update everything to run on the most recent versions of PHP. After that…. we’ll see. :)

But great idea, thanks for the note.

    Ben

  8. Renante says:

Yes, Ben – multiple tables that are related by foreign keys.

I am so happy to hear Formtools is not dying. This is something worth spreading, but I hope you get a solid community to help you with it. Best of luck and thank you for the hard work.

    Rgds,
    Renante
